On the second Tuesday of every month there is a special group of people that get together that talk about what’s in store for the weeks ahead. It’s all about the next generation and paying it forward. Below I would like to tell you who we are and what we do.
This is a group of people that I get to hangout with on a regular basis that is not part of my “Inner circle” of friends. They are not part of my church or my family. But this group is part of my community. This
group is called the YPG, or “Young Professionals Group”. YPG is a group of young professionals within the Anchorage Chamber. The goal is to provide opportunities for young professionals to integrate themselves into the chamber and business world while networking and having fun. It’s easy to become a member, all you must do is attend one monthly meeting and one YPG sponsored event such as luncheon or business after hours and BOOM, just like that you are a member and you get a fancy personalized name tag!
YPG’ers as we like to call ourselves are a very important part of the business community. We
are there to help spread the wings of the younger generation who might have just graduated from collage and starting their new career, or maybe someone who has just moved to a new town and wants to meet the up and commers of an area, or even just a group of younger people who are there to lift each other up, help support each other and create relationships that will stay with them far into their adult careers.
There are several different committees that we have within the YPG. Ambassador Council, Business
After Hours, Business Development, Finance, Legislative, Military, and Municipal Affairs. There are so many ways to be involved and part of this young group of business minded professionals that there is something for everyone. We also do “CEO Luncheons”. This is where there is a very small number of seats, usually less than 15 and you get to have a one on one lunch with a CEO of a major local company and few other YPG’ers as well. How cool is that?!
I love being a part of this group for several reasons. Like previously stated, they are here for the younger generation that is coming into the workforce, they are the movers and shakers of the next generation who one day might be the next Attorney General, the next mayor or governor or maybe even the next CEO of a local company who once was sitting in that seat at a small intimate luncheon and thought “One day, I’ll be the CEO giving a lunch talk to a group of young professionals”. Whatever your reason, the YPG is a tremendous uplifting bunch and a great organization to be a part of!
