Better Business Bureau Northwest + Pacific is proud to announce Jonah Shin as the 2018 Students of Integrity Scholarship winner!
Shin is a senior at Olympia High School with plans to study Computer Science in the fall. Shin competed against more than 250 applicants from Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Washington and Western Wyoming. On April 12 he was presented a check for $10,000 by BBB Northwest + Pacific CEO Tyler Andrew at Olympia High School.
"We are so excited to have Jonah as our 2018 Scholarship winner, as he truly represents what it means to be a student of integrity," Andrew said. "All of our video entries were exemplary, but Jonah's creative take on explaining ways to combat identity theft stood out from the pack."
The application required students to submit a 90-second video demonstrating how BBB helps people be smart consumers. Shin's video explained ways to prevent identity-theft through Lego stop-motion. His video received nearly 3,000 views! You can view the winning video on BBB's YouTube page or at http://bit.ly/ScholarshipBBB.
"I would like to thank the BBB for providing this opportunity for students to unleash their creativity for a good cause: to inform the public," Shin said. "A year ago, when I first found out about this scholarship, I remember instantly brainstorming and creating a mental storyboard because I was so excited to finally put my animation skills to good use. Additionally, with this scholarship, you pave a path for the bright futures of students like me."
Shin has a message for incoming juniors and seniors who are considering applying for the scholarship next year.
"If you have a spark of creativity and if you want assistance with funding your future, apply for this scholarship! It’s a load of fun; you don’t realize how many innovative ideas you store in your brain until you start to create," he said.
