The following are scams that were reported to Better Business Bureau serving the Northwest & Pacific in March. In most instances, names and locations have been omitted to protect the victims’ privacy.
In March, there were 78 scams reported to BBB Scam Tracker with an estimated $10,000 lost in Idaho.
Debt Collection Scam
A Nampa woman reports she lost more than $2,800 to a debt collection scam. She reports she received a call claiming she owed over $2,800. They convinced her to call her parents to pay the bill in full because they had her address, date of birth and social security number.
Online Purchase Scam
A Boise woman reports she lost $67 to an online purchase scam. She reports she bought cream for $12, but a month later the company charged her $67 for a month of supplies that she never ordered or authorized.
A Coeur d'Alene woman reports she lost $549 to a puppy scam. She reports she purchase a puppy online from Sunshine Puppy Shop. After she paid, she received an email from a pet shipping company asking her to pay an additional $999 to ship the puppy. After contacting Sunshine Puppy Shop for a refund, they kept ensuring her she would receive her puppy and wouldn’t agree to refund her.
