Under the Big Top

The Buy Idaho Capitol Show is one of my favorite events of the year. Not only does it draw in a unique mix of local businesses but the venue itself is a reason to attend. It is held in the gorgeous marble lined
rotunda of our state capitol’s building.

Attendees walk floor by floor meeting with local business owners, tasting samples of products and learning what organizations are doing in Idaho.

BBB sponsored this event because of its connection to local businesses as well as its presence within the community. I also had a table at the event, which was the starting point to our “Spot the Seal” game. With 15 BBB Accredited Businesses also in attendance at the event, it gave me the opportunity to highlight them as a trustworthy business. When attendees visited the BBB table, they picked up a “passport” encouraging them to look for the “BBB Accredited Business” seal. Once they spotted one, they asked for the person’s signature. Completed passports went into a drawing for a prize of a BBB water bottle (they’re really cool bottles!) and a $50 Amazon gift card. This interactive activity was a fun way to remind consumers to look for the BBB seal when shopping. It also provided a way for Accredited Business to see the value and feel the BBB love.

I also provided attendees with information on BBB’s scholarship program for high school juniors and seniors. We’re awarding $12,000 in scholarships this year to help eight lucky students with college costs.

One of the best things about this event, besides the samples of cake and chocolates, was the feedback we received from the public. My favorite was from one woman who told me, “thank you for everything you do!”   That made my day.
